Faith & Calling – A Series for Writers on the Journey

Faith & Calling.
Most writers don’t wake up one morning knowing exactly what God has called them to do—or how that calling will take shape. For many of us, the journey unfolds slowly, quietly, and often with more questions than answers.
This series was written for writers who feel a nudge they can’t ignore…
For those who love words but wonder if their writing truly matters…
For those who wrestle with doubt, fear, interruptions, and the ordinary realities of life..
Faith & Calling explores what it looks like to walk out a writing calling with God—not perfectly, but faithfully.
These posts are not about formulas or fast success. They are about obedience, growth, trust, and learning to recognize God’s hand in both the small steps and the long seasons.
Throughout this series, we’ll talk honestly about questions writers often ask but don’t always say out loud:
- Is writing really a calling—or just a hobby?
- What if I’m unqualified?
- What if I get it wrong?
- What if my calling changes along the way?
- What does obedience look like on an ordinary day?
Here’s what you’ll find in the Faith & Calling series:
- Writing as a Calling, Not Just a Hobby
- When God Calls the Unqualified—and Leaves Them That Way
- When Writing Feels Hard: Leaning on Faith
- Praying Through Writer’s Block
- What the Bible Teaches Us About Storytelling
- When Doubt Walks Right Beside Your Calling
- Trusting God With the Story You’re Writing
- Faithful in the Small Things
- What If I Get It Wrong?
- When Your Calling Changes Shape
- Walking It Out One Step at a Time
- A Day of Obedience
Each post builds on the one before it, forming a picture of calling that is lived out over time—through learning, patience, community, redirection, and grace. I will post a new post each week following the outline above, until the series is complete. Click here to go to the first post: Writing as a Calling, Not Just a Hobby.
If you’re at the beginning of your writing journey, this series will encourage you to start.
If you’re somewhere in the middle, it will remind you not to quit.
And if you’ve been writing for years, it will affirm that God is still at work.
This is not a journey meant to be walked alone. My hope is that these words will meet you right where you are and help you take the next faithful step forward.
Scripture
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 1:6
I share this verse with you this week, as it is my life verse. God will never leave us on our journey in life, no matter our calling, our mountain tops, or our valleys. He is faithful.
